Torakosmos Hitomi-Pictures are the Sephiroth

by Andreas G. Szabó

Here is the place where you can find all meanings of the secret Sephiroth as I am yet aware of. Click on a Sephirah below to see its description. The pictures of Daath, Jesod and Malkuth are either not exiting or not yet discovered. You can use the Hitomi-App to maybe find them.

There are obvious and also hidden figures or purpose in the secret Sephirot, the Hitomi-pictures. Let me list the directly visible things here and explain the hidden parts later in detail. Later it will also become clear to you why the pictures really show the objects listed here. So what do the pictures show apparently?

368A headband with a prong.
971A staff or measure.
656Orion with Procyon and Sirius.
231A compass.
366An impressive figure.
666An equilateral triangle.
678The Big Dipper, aka Chariot
867A square (right angle).

The idea of Hitomi-Sephirotic correspondences is supported by mathematical relations between the picture forming key numbers. These relations only become clear when we arrange the pictures visually like the Sephiroth of the Tree of Life.

picture: cross sums

In the first step we build the final cross-sums of the key numbers. Final means that again a cross-sum is built from a resulting cross-sum until the resulting number has only one digit. When doing so, we notice that we have the same digits in the left and the right column. The next thing we recognize is that the numbers in the left and right column show the key number at the top of the tree.

Further there are so-called check-sums. Here this means we add two numbers to get an interesting third number. So let's add 867 and 666, which are neighbors here, and we get 1533. This is the number of the verses of the Genesis. 656 and 366 result in 1022 and this is exactly two thirds of the verses of the Genesis.

Where a Hitomi-picture itself did not yet reveal to me the Sephirah it belongs to, the number symmetries shown here were a good way for orientation.

By the way, the three eights at the top, forming an 888, are the value of Ιησους (Jesus) in Greek.

Now lets see what the pictures show in detail. The obvious and also the hidden things.

1 - Kether (Crown) - Hitomi 368כתר

The Sephirah at the top of the Tree of Life is called Kether (means crown) and has the Planet Neptune assigned to it. It needs 368 days for one visibility-cycle of Neptune and the Hitomi-picture that is derived from the key value 368 shows a crown or rather a diadem, that is made of a headband and a prong.

picture: crown

In the central verse of the Torah, Leviticus 8:9, Moses fixes a blossom to the headband of Aaron. Apart from multiple possible translations for the interesting words in this verse, I try to translate the words next to the original Hebrew meanings, while giving the verse a modern English grammar:

“And he put the band upon his [Aaron's] head. And upon the forefront of the band, he put the golden blossom, the holy insignia, as Jahwe יהוה‎ commanded Moses.”

While the "insignia" can also mean a diadem or crown, I saw lots of alternative translations for the "blossom": plate, thing, bloom, flower, rosette or a star. The prong in the picture looked remarkable and striking to me; it was so much in the center of the picture that it seemed like it would form a star when I copied it rotatedly thrice more into the picture. I did this, and there: the desired star (or blossom?) appeared. The special feature that gives evidence to this is that the four prongs fit really into each other without spacings.

picture: star

Neptune is not visible to the naked eye. So 368 is the value of the words מחשך (machshak) meaning darkness and בסנורים (besanverim) meaning “in blindness”. Only if we observe the picture closely as I did, “Neptune” appears. While in astronomy this means to calculate or estimate the orbit of Neptune, spiritually it may imply to head for the hidden truth?

The word ציץ (tsits) that is our blossom in the central verse of the Torah, and that I once saw translated as star somewhere, has the value 1000. And guess what, Ptolemy in his work “Almagest” writes of around 1000 counted stars which were visible from Alexandria. The number is mostly cited as 1022, two thirds of the verses of the Genesis. Could this number mean the result of what God instructs Abram to do in Genesis 15:5: “... count the stars ...”?

For me the depicted headband with a star, crown or blossom is a chakra; more specifically it is some sort of combination of both the so-called Third-Eye-Chakra and the Crown-Chakra which are located at the forehead and directly over the head. The name Aaron means enlightened (from Or = light). Can enlightenment be the result of “counting” that could also mean “close observation” of “the stars” to see the hidden things? Well, not literally. I think what is meant here is meditation, where the inner realms become clear to the inner eye like the stars in a starry night.

By the way, as every dot is a word in a Genesis verse, the word that makes the apex dot of the prong is “thy dwelling” and sits in verse 767, the central verse of the Genesis. This is verse 27:39 and reads:

“And Isaac his [Esau's] father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above.”

Could this suppose a unity of matter (earth) and spirit (above)? By the way the value of “holy crown” נזר הקדש in the central verse of the Torah is 666. As we are going to see, Hitomi 666 in the center of the tree displays a unity of the elements.

Finally the word value 1000 occurs 767 times in the Greek new Testament. Just wanted to mention this. Obtaining word values in Greek is traditional and is called Isopsephia.

2 - Chokmah (Wisdom) - Hitomi 971חכמה

This picture 971 seems very simple on the very first view. Superficially I see it as a staff or scepter. But a staff can be a measure. And as we are going to see, in this case, a measure of time by counting planetary cycles. When we observe this staff closely, it turns out, that it “contains” the whole Torah. Please be patient, this is a long story.

As we can get from the Introduction, every dot in the Hitomi-pictures sits on a spoke of the wheel. When we determine the spokes on which the three dots of the staff line in this picture are placed, we get the spokes 98, 98 and 99. You can verify this by moving your mouse pointer over a dot in the Hitomi-program.

When we push the whole wheel forward by one spoke (“shift”), this means, the dots from spoke one land on spoke two and so on; the numbers of the spokes where the mentioned dots reside become 99, 99 and 100. This is correct, as we are going to see. The same procedure is required to let the figure in Hitomi 366 shine up.

picture: Hitomi 971 w/ cycles

The numbers 99, 99 and 100 appear in Genesis chapter 17, and only there. They are the age of Abram, who was 99 years before he was renamed to Abraham, then mentioned again as 99 years when he was circumcised. And also in that chapter, there is the remark that Abraham would be 100 when his son Isaak is born.

It might have been an inspiration to me when I multiplied twice 99 with the lunar phase cycle of 29.53 days. The result was the number of verses of the Torah: 5847. And not only this, the age of Abraham's son Ismael is mentioned as 13 years in the same chapter, while twice 13 Venusian years are 5842 days.

picture: mond/venus cycles

The idea of 99 heavenly cycles, a half Torah as symbolized with the orange circles in the Hitomi 971 picture above, might have found a way into art. There are exactly 99 stars put into the mosaic below. It stems from the church Sant’Apollinare in Classe and shows a variant of the Transfiguration of Jesus, as it is surrounded (not visible in the picture) by Moses and Elijah. The letters above the cross read “Ichthys” (fish, explained on the Christ page) and the words below are “Salus Mundi”: Salvation to the World. The greek lettes Alpha and Omega in the mosaic perfectly correlate to the idea of a timeline.

picture: 99 Stars Painting in Classe

The number of verses of the Torah is not constant in every edition, but it turns around 5847 and this is directly the number of verses of the so-called Koren edition of the Torah. Actually 198 times 29.53 is 5846.94, but if you use the currently known number of days for the lunar phase cycle, which is 29.530588, you get even closer to 5847, namely 5847.06, which is exact by one place behind the decimal point.

When looking at this closer, I found out that 5847 days are twice the so-called Octaeteris planetary cycle. It is probably used here twice, because the single cycle measures something with .5 days behind the decimal point. Twice is best. There is no comparably good common cycle of planets: 198 lunar phase cycles, 214 lunar revolution cycles (Moon around the Earth), 26 Venusian years, 10 Venusian visibility-cycles and 16 Earth years.

Well, when looking at this very closely, it turns out that the cycles of the different heavenly bodies differ for some few days, so that they get out of alignment throughout the years. But this is no problem. It is evident that this cycle was really used for calendration by the ancients. And every calendar needs fixing from time to time. Hence our leap year you know.

There is another clue that Genesis chapter 17 could be dedicated to planetary cycles: The first verse of that chapter is verse 399 of the Torah. While a visibility-cycle of Jupiter takes 398.88 days, there is also the 4333rd word of the Torah in that verse, the word “years”, and the years on Jupiter take just under 4333 days.

And one further clue: Jupiter appears again after 398.88 days. But some five hours before, the full moon is perfect. And in verse 399, which is Genesis 17:1 we have:

“... and Jahwe appeared to Abram and said unto him: ... walk before me and be thou perfect.”

Thus, when Jupiter like Jahwe יהוה‎ appears, Abram like the Moon “walks” before it / him and is perfect. Is there a relation between persons and planets?

The number 971 is the sum of the values of the words שנה (shanah) meaning year and יום (yom) meaning day. A year and a day are 366 days, one leap year, and this might be a cross reference to Hitomi-picture 366. What the pictures 971 and 366 have in common is that they need to be rotated one spoke forward to let their true meanings appear. This is similar to our leap year, where we need to add one day to stay correct. While a year could be represented by the full wheel, a day may allegorically be the one spoke step that must be added.

After all this we can make an alternate interpretation of Verse 366 of the Torah, Genesis 15:5, where God instructs Abram to count the stars:

“And he brought him [Abram] forth abroad, and said: Look now toward heaven, and count the stars, if thou be able to number them. And he said unto him: So shall thy seed be.”

For me it is obvious, that on the exegetic level of clues (Remes) this could mean not to count the stars themselves, but rather their cycles. In addition to this, the expression "the stars" הכוכבים in that verse, has the value 663, which is 366 backwards. Not that I could say what this may mean, but to me it is very interesting though. I can yet only interpret, that the cycles of the Torah could mean the laws of life.

3 - Binah (Understanding) - Hitomi 656בינה

656 would be the Greek Isopsephy value of Μεσσιας meaning Messiah, but this picture is difficult. I am more or less sure that it has to do with time, but am not aware how and what it means in its details. Except, to me it clearly shows Orion with Procyon and Sirius. However this Orion seems to miss its belt-stars. Well, it seems. Actually they are there, but miniaturized and turned upside down. Please check it in the Hitomi-program and click on the zoom button as explained in the guide there. In the picture below you see the belt-stars enlarged and turned to their correct position.

picture: orion

Perhaps, while the belt- and sword-stars show microcosmos, the other stars show macrocosmos.

The dots that form the “sword” all are the word “and sixty” וששים, and they are 6 dots (not all visible individually as they are too close together). Together six times 60 are 360, a circle. Maybe this has a meaning here.

You can see, that one dot/star of the belt is missing! In the Orion/Pyramids correlation theory this missing dot would mark the Great Pyramid of Khufu.

Further, the whole picture is distorted. Maybe because the center of this Orion should be in the center of the picture. If it should be there and the picture was not distorted, the outer stars Procyon and Sirius would be outside of the picture. But for some reason they need to be present. So they are drawn closer.

The dot that makes the star Sirius, sits in verse 1444. Perhaps this has something to do with the Sothis (Egyptian Sirius) cycle or similar, as that cycle is related to the number 1440. This is four times 360: Four circles.

Because this Hitomi-Orion has its belt stars shrinked, it looks more like an hour glass. This would match here because an hourglass is a Symbol of Binah: Binah has Saturn assigned to it, who is the Greek Chronos - the god of time.

One reason why I attribute the picture 656 to Binah/Saturn is, that one dot of the belt sits in verse 378. This is the visibility-cycle of Saturn in days.

4 - Chesed (Kindness) - Hitomi 231חסד

We have already talked about details of this picture in the Introduction. Briefly said, it depicts a conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn. I have put the Hitomi picture 231 into a zodiac with a degrees scale, starting between Pisces and Aries and going counterclockwise, and measured the angles of the supposed Jupiter, Saturn and Sun as seen from Earth. They fit to the astronomical data.

picture: conjunction

However I wondered why Jupiter is present twice in the picture, once at its real position and once again in a line with Mars when seen from Sun. And this Mars is not where it should be after the astronomical data.

But I found out by measurement and calculation, that while Mars does a full revolution around Sun (a Martian year), Jupiter travels exactly the distance marked with the red arrow. This is very amazing. And both the second Jupiter-dot and the Mars-dot are the word SPEAK.

The Saturn and the Jupiter dot of the conjunction are the words DOWN and NORTH. This clues to the Hitomi-picture 678, that display the Chariot (Big Dipper) down in the north, which marks the exact time of day of the conjunction as you have seen (or can see) in the Introduction.

Speech is the domain of the Hebrew letter פ (Pe, meaning mouth), which is attributed to the North and to Mars in the Sepher Yetzirah (book of formation). The Sun-dot is explained on the Christ Page.

The orbits of the planets (red) do not relate to each other like in reality, but they do relate in the measure of the golden ratio. And if you have not noticed it yet consciously, this picture clearly shows knowledge or at least the theory of the heliocentric solar system, that must have been familiar to the creators of the Hitomi-pictures.

5 - Gevurah (Severity, Power) - Hitomi 366גבורה

This picture depicts the Sephirah Gevurah and is yet a true miracle to me. All I can say for sure about it: it looks awesome and mighty and ... natural.

picture: Hitomi 366

To see this picture in Hitomi it is required to push the wheels forward by one spoke, so that every dot lands on the next spoke and the dots that are on the last spoke of a wheel land on the first spoke of the next outer wheel. This procedure resembles to a possible meaning of the key number 366 of this picture, being the number of days in a year plus one day. So we step forward one spoke, like one day is added to the leap year to correct it.

I found this procedure by accident, when writing the first version of the Hitomi-method computer program with an error in its formulas. But I quickly realized that it was no error concerning the 366 picture and so I kept the “error” as an option. I called the option “shift”. In the Hitomi-App you can enter one or more spokes by which you want to shift the wheel forward. Yet it seems that only shifting by a single spoke makes sense, in this picture, and, as I found out later, also in the picture 971.

What do we see here? Obviously it is a triangle which is divided clearly and definitely into parts by apparently harmonic proportions. From the top to the bottom the parts become greater? And perhaps the dividing lines denote some kind of flash running through the triangle. Then there is a golden spiral, possibly the Kundalini-snake, that emerges from the bottom parts, circling around them, growing, and then touching the tip of the triangle. And the spiral probably may continue beyond the tip.

Or conversely: from the bottom to the top the parts become smaller, and a golden spiral comes from beyond the tip of the triangle, concentrates around the bottom parts and finally seems to vanish there into nothing. Or should I say it terminates into a singularity?

Well, such thoughts are close to metaphysics. Doesn't the picture describe principles of natural decline and growth, in other words disintegration and manifestation? What about understanding it as an expression of the laws of nature?

In this case it is coherent to attribute this picture to Gevurah. Gevurah means severity and laws of nature are the most severe form of severity. Yet they are unchangeable and omnipresent. Only time is even more severe.

The golden spiral was not drawn in arbitrarily. It was directly derived from how it is actually constructed:

picture: golden spiral

We can see, that there is a smaller triangle draw into the bigger at its base and so on. This feature matches to the shape of the Hitomi 366 triangle base. This was the reason why I thought of the golden spiral when I saw the Hitomi-picture.

A golden spiral is the royal sort of a logarithmic spiral. These spirals grow in harmonic proportions.

They are a blueprint for shapes of natural growth, and there are a lot of manifestations of logarithmic spirals in nature: snail shells, fir cones, some cactuses, a special broccoli, some fractals, hurricanes as seen from above the clouds and even galaxies and much more.

According to historians the logarithmic spiral was first studied and described by René Descartes in 1638 AD.

6 - Tiphareth (Beauty) - Hitomi 666תפארת

The number 666 is the most prominent number within the Bible. In Revelation 13:18, probably one of the most often cited verses of the Bible, it reads:

“Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding count the number of the beast. It is the number of a man and the number is 666.”

There are a lot of speculations out there about what this could mean. I do not know that and am not going to add another speculation to this. The 666 was just - because of its prominence - the first number that I tried out with Hitomi and the number through which I actually discovered the Hitomi-method.

The picture clearly displays an equilateral triangle with a line through it which I think is optional. Note that an equilateral triangle has the angles 60° and 60° and 60°. What is this figure?

picture: triangle

From the experience, that our Hitomi-pictures may have to do with planets and stars, it is evident that this picture could be the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction cycle, similarly drawn as done so by Kepler. In this cycle the conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn reoccur every 20 years but set 117° further to the west so that three subsequent conjunctions nearly form an equilateral triangle around the observer. After about 60 years the positions of the conjunctions are closely the same, but are set 9° further to the east. So the triangle is slowly rotating counterclockwise.

The three corners are always touching the three zodiacal signs that belong to the same of the four elements. This is why the symbols for the elements are triangles.

After some time, approximately 1200 years, the triangle has turned 180° and forms a six cornered star together with itself in the position as it started. This is the Star of David or the Seal of Solomon, in which the elements are united.

That star has 6 corners and 666 is the triangular number of the square number of 6. These are clues that Hitomi 666 really depicts the Sephirah 6: Tiphareth. But there is more: יהוה שמש (Jaweh Shamash) means “Jaweh is the sun” and sums up to 666. Recall that the sun belongs to Tiphareth, the center Sephirah.

That Sephirah is often associated with Christ throughout the Kabbalah, more specifically with “Christ consciousness”, and I am going to account for this later.

7 - Netzach (Victory) - Hitomi 678נצח

The Big Dipper is more commonly known as Chariot in most parts of the world on the northern hemisphere of the Earth. Even the Sumerians around 3000 BC saw a Chariot in its stars. But regardless of the name of the figure, when we superimpose the Hitomi 678 picture with the real Chariot in the stars we get a very good match. Although there are some dots added or out of position - and there must sure be a reason for this - the four main dots are where they are supposed to be.

picture: dipper

The key number 678 is also the word value of מרכבתיו (Exodus 14:25). This reads “their Merkaba” and Merkaba means Chariot.

For us as for the Sumerians - and for sure also for the creators of the Hitomi-pictures - the Chariot does and did not rise and set like most other star constellations. Back then as now, when watched from their location, it stays always above the skyline and can be seen every night of the year. The Chariot is permanently rotating around the celestial north pole. It is a so-called circumpolar constellation. Therefore this picture is attributed to the Sephira Netzach, because Netzach means “eternity”, in the sense of endlessly rotating. Another translation of Netzach is “victory” and the idea of victory is included in the meaning of a chariot.

The ongoing sequence of days and nights in a year and the rising and setting of stellar constellations resembles to the cycle of life and death. The Chariot is always above the horizon and there triumphing over this cycle. In the Nordic mythology the cycle of life and death is ruled by the goddess Freya, who is identical in a lot of meanings with our Venus. Both goddesses are attributed to the Sephirah Netzach in the Hermetic Kabbalah. It is said that Freya has a cart that is pulled by two white cats. Because cats are rather small animals, and the most stars appear white, one can conclude that the cats could be the stars of the drawbar of the Chariot and Freya's cart could be the Chariot itself.

Netzach means eternity, while eternal life by eating from the Tree of Life in Eden is guarded by the Cherubim (a sort of angels). Who would have thought it, the word that makes the yellow dot in Hitomi 678 is את־הכרבים, which translates as Cherubim. Well, more precisely as “essence of the Cherubim”.

Since creation of the Tarot cards, while Netzach is the seventh Sephirah, the Chariot is depicted on the seventh card. The constellation is made of seven stars (of which one is a double star) and the Hitomi 678 picture is made of seven dots.

The Big Dipper is, besides Orion, the best visible and best known star constellation. It is important for orientation in the night sky. This must have been similar in the ancient world, where these features of the Big Dipper could have been a good reason to choose it as one of the Hitomi-pictures.

8 - Hod (Splendor) - Hitomi 867הוד

When I first saw the four dots of this picture I thought of a right angle, more specifically of the square of the Freemasons. I know that the Freemasons are not so old that it really could be their square, but where did they get it from? It is clear that the square is a common and well known tool of all builders and so also of the ancestors of the Freemasons, but how come that especially this symbol is now used as a utensil for mystic work?

picture: four dots

While viewing a picture book about history, I saw a depiction of an easy proof for the Pythagorean theorem, a right-angled triangle whose three borders were divided by the same unit into equally long segments. One side had 3 segments, one 4 and one 5, so that one could easily calculate 3² + 4² = 5².

I had the idea that eventually my square could be a part of such a figure and that the two same yellow dot distances, one on the vertical line and one on the horizontal line are the unit by which the sides should be divided. I wanted to verify that these two same yellow dot distances are something special here and have to do with that theorem. Only this would make the picture something special.

I tried to connect the left lower dot and the upper right dot directly to extend the square into a triangle but did not find the solution until I went beyond just seeing the obvious and copied the yellow dot distance outwards onto the two elongated legs as shown in the picture below. Now the horizontal leg measured four units and the vertical leg three units. Of course now the angular side measured five units. There I had the proof for the Pythagorean theorem, and evidence for my idea that the yellow dot distances in the Hitomi-picture really define the unit by which the sides must be divided.

picture: pythagoras

This Hitomi 867 Pythagorean triangle does not stand somehow aslope, but orthogonally aligned in the picture. I mean one leg is exactly horizontal and the other exactly vertical. And one of the dots sits on the same horizontal line as the center of the picture.

Not connecting the dots directly but leaving the bounds of ordinary thinking and drawing the lines beyond the dots is the moment of insight and realisation.

I found the Hebrew word התבנית (Ha Tabnit), meaning construction, which has the gematric value 867. It came into my mind, that this triangle of Pythagoras is a construction and that I found it by extraordinary thinking.

This led me to the insight that it is the intellect that is permanently constructing an always better and better plan of reality and demanding to get evidence for that plan. Intellect, thinking, logic and mathematics are the domain of the Sephirah Hod, and therefore I am sure that Hitomi 867 and the Pythagorean theorem depict Hod.

A right angle is essential for a reflection that should go back to the source of the light. Only light that falls unto a reflecting surface by an angle of 90 degrees relative to the plane of the surface is reflected directly back to the source of the light. This is not different for one who deliberates and reflects over himself. Also reflection in any meanings is the domain of Hod.

There are voices that there is some coherence between the Pythagoreans and the Freemasons. For the Freemasons the right angle is a symbol for a righteous lifestyle, ethics and morality, thus for loyalty to the human law and the principles of social interaction. Unlike natural laws, these principles and laws are different in different civilizations and are changing. They are man-made and constructed (Tabnit), but nevertheless a form of severity. And because Hod is placed on the column of severity in the Tree of Life, it is really alright to attribute Hitomi 867 to Hod.
